Standing Committees & Working Groups

CAFC members play a vital role in the Association’s governance and policy through their involvement in committees and working groups. Committee members are subject matter experts, gather critical information, produce reports and provide recommendations and guidance to CAFC’s Board of Directors.



The following are CAFC’s Working Groups and Standing Committees:


Working Groups
Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR): This group will explore the merits of INSARAG accreditation and deployment issues and liaise with Public Safety. 
National Fire Information Database Group (NFID): This group will look at next steps with respect to the use, analysis and sustainability of the NFID.
Redefining Fire: This group will lead an initiative to help describe the new and emerging roles of Canadian fire departments. 
Building codes: This group will respond to government consultations, propose changes, and deal all issues related to building and fire codes, liaising with NRC.  
Diversity and Inclusion: This group focuses on how CAFC can assist in promoting diversity and inclusion within departments, profession, and the association. 
Best Practice/KT/Education: This committee serves as a sounding board for best practice, education and KT and reviews all CAFC endorsement requests.
Interoperability/Public Safety Broadband:   This committee oversees the Association’s policy positions as it pertains to Interoperability and the PSBN.


Chief on Call: This is a roster of individuals who are willing to accept requests from other chiefs for one on one discussions to solve problems/obtain advice.
Standing Committees
External representation committee: Anyone currently representing the CAFC in an external initiative is asked to join this coordination committee.
ECFO Council: The ECFO council provides content, curriculum, mentorship, administrative, business development and evaluative leadership to the ECFO program
Resolutions Bylaws & Constitution committee:  This committee leads the call for resolutions process that takes place at the AGM. It is most active between May and September.   

Nominations: This committee handles the nomination of board members and officers of the corporation. It is  most active between May and September.   

Membership: This committee looks at the CAFC value proposition and explores opportunities to enable membership in both provincial and national associations. 

Fire-Rescue Canada 2018 Program: This committee oversees the development of the CAFC annual conference.
Board and NAC: These positions are elected per the bylaws and so not open to new candidates.
International Best Practice: This committee will include international representatives and is not open to the membership at this time.
Committee of Chairs/Reps: This committee will be composed of committee co-chairs to ensure that the work of the CAFCacross its internal and external initiatives is coordinated and that the appropriate policy priorities coming out of committee work are identified.
Ad hoc (Cannabis, Rail, Fentanyl etc): Ad Hoc committee may be called upon as needed. Please stay tuned)
