Improved Access to Railroad Train Data
CN railroad is the backbone of the North American economy, safely and efficiently moving a vast portfolio of critical products, including wheat, grain, automobiles, coal, intermodal containers, petroleum products and chemicals.
CN’s Dangerous Goods Team is an important part of CN’s efforts to safely move dangerous commodities and respond
to incidents. This team consists of highly trained specialists in dangerous goods emergency response, transportation
safety compliance and hazmat training.
CN, as a member of the Association of American Railroads, is introducing first responders along our network to AskRail,
a new mobile application to access train information during an emergency. AskRail allows these responders to view realtime information on rail cars through their mobile devices for use in emergencies and for training purposes.
Getting Access to the AskRail App
CN’s Dangerous Goods Team will work with local emergency responders along the network to grant access to the AskRail app. Each department wishing to have access must have the chief or manager sign-up and submit the information required for each person within their department. Once the first responders download the AskRail app on their mobile device, they will simply enter the identification number located on the rail car into the app to identify the commodity inside. AskRail is another great tool for your emergency response tool box.
