The CAFC Online Leadership Portal is here!
April 15, 2015
The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs E-learning Leadership Portal is here offering online professional development courses for CAFC members.
With costs and budget constraints in mind, CAFC went about developing a new, online learning system that will be offered to CAFC members free of charge. Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault, President of CAFC, said it was important to offer something back to those who may be uncertain on why they should become members or if they already are, why they should retain their memberships.
The program "reduces the cost of learning and offers leadership development for more employees,” explains Chief Boissonneault, "all for the cost of a CAFC membership. We’ll start with offering
15 courses to our members in the first year but that number may grow as demand for courses increases.” The CAFC actually has access to a catalogue of over 1000 courses, including topics that cover finance, human resources, leadership, project management, communication, negotiation, managing organizational change, facilitating, workplace conflict, and others.
The program will allow members of CAFC to gain access to business and management skill sets without having to spend thousands of dollars to take courses or travel across the country. Adds President Boissonneault "…everything can be done from your computer in the comfort of your office or home when you have time.”
This is just the beginning of the CAFC’s initiative to help current chief officers, and those wishing to become chiefs in the future, in their professional development.
"The tools we are bringing online are relevant for all members, whether career or volunteer” President Boissonneault said. "We know many departments have obstacles in terms of time and resources to commit to professional development. We’re trying to build programs and services that fit the need of their reality.”
