IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Please join me in welcoming Mr. Dan Hefkey to the position of Commissioner of Community Safety with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Reporting to Ian Davidson, the appointment is effective immediately.
In his new role as Commissioner as well as Associate Deputy Minister of Community Safety, Mr. Hefkey assumes overall accountability for public safety strategies, emergency preparedness, fire protection services, policing support and security services, and forensic science services.
Dan brings a wealth of community safety experience to his new role. Dan joined the Ontario Public Service in 1984 as a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). He worked in various areas within the OPP, most notably having contributed to the development of an Emergency Management Bureau, where he became the Operational Planner and later, Section Lead. In 2007, Dan became Chief of Emergency Management Ontario (EMO). Most recently, he was the Assistant Deputy Minister, Emergency Management and Business Continuity, where he also retained the position and responsibilities of Chief of EMO. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario and a Diploma in Adult Education from Algonquin College.
