2006 mutual aid survey results

This is a survey to determine the extent to which formal Mutual Aid Agreements exist (regular and declared emergencies) in the Canadian Fire Service, including both intra and inter provincial/territorial Mutual Aid Agreements as well as international agreements between Canadian and US border municipalities.  The survey also probes the role of provincial Fire Marshal/ Commissioners Offices in overseeing and administering mutual aid systems.

Background – IAFC Mutual Aid System Task Force (MASTF) Project Goal:
“Develop a recognized, accepted and seamless process for the inter-state mobilization, integration and utilization of fire service resources and assets in the event of a disaster.”

While the task force was primarily concerned with interstate issues, they are also cognizant of the fact that 15 states share boundaries with our international partners.  In these areas, it is imperative that efforts be made to ensure the sharing of fire service resources when needed to maintain the goals we have identified.
