MONTREAL FIRE CHIEF HONOURED

Serge Tremblay, Fire Chief of the Montreal Fire Department, is Canada’s Full-time Fire Chief of the Year   His award was announced last evening during the closing ceremonies at the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs’ annual conference held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. 

  

Fire Chief Tremblay began his fire services career in 1979 and became Montreal’s Fire Chief in 2004.  He heads the sixth largest fire department in North America.  It comprises 2,300 uniformed firefighters and 400 support staff working out of 66 fire halls to protect 1.8 million citizens.  

 

Through his leadership, the Montreal Fire Department has become recognized for its professionalism and dedication.  Fire Chief Tremblay’s ability to communicate, his honesty and integrity and his commitment to being close to his firefighters at major incidents has earned him widespread respect within the department.

 

Fire Chief Tremblay’s record of accomplishment has already been recognized.  He is President of both Quebec’s provincial fire college and the Quebec Association of Fire Chiefs. 

   

During his tenure as President of the Quebec Association, Fire Chief Tremblay was instrumental in creating the provincial fire college and in establishing training requirements for all Quebec firefighters.

 

Fire Chief Patrick Burke, Niagara Falls Fire Services is President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs.  In congratulating Fire Chief Tremblay he referred to him as “a standard of excellence against which all Canadian fire chiefs can evaluate themselves.”

 

The fire service in Canada is comprised of 3,500 fire departments and 108,000 firefighters and their officers.
